The Single Right Button Click
Part of the Basic3 Skills Online Courses

Authored by Author: Ron Reed, a.k.a. Dancin' Gator
Hello! I'm "Righty M. Button", a twin.    I have just one job, but it is a big one. I am the master of the right mouse button.    If you right click anywhere, I will give you all the info I can about the entity you clicked.    If you select something I found on my list, I will do it for you.
Tutorial's Limited Goals
This tutorial is presented to demonstrate the varied "selections" you may encounter when you are single right clicking different entities found on the page.

As you proceed thru this tutorial the "selections" that one observes are active.

The functional processing of these selections are not the "topics" of the tutorial, but the narrative explanations of their function is the point of the presentation.

An explanation of the functions of the selections displayed may or may not be documented by linkage pages.

There are two types of entities on a page, text and images. Thus, there is five types of entities to single right click...
1) images that are not links,

2) images that are links,

3) text that is not a link,

4) text that is a link, and

5) "whitespace" (neither an image nor text area).

If you single right click what appears to be text below, the entity just may not be text at all.

Question 1: Is the above text really text?
( Yes ) ( No ) Hint: Single Right Click either Yes or No choice.

Question 2: Is the above "link" really a link?   Click it and see!
( Yes ) ( No )

Ok? What is this?

Question 3: Is the above a textual Link?   ( Yes ) ( No )

Question 4: Is the above a graphic Link?   ( Yes ) ( No )

Question 5: What is it?   ( Text ) ( A link ) ( A graphic )

A Basic Skills Question?

When you have studied the presentations above, then ask yourself this question. Do you understand what you see?

Is what appears when you single right click anything on the page dependent upon Windows (your operating system) or dependent on the Browser you are using?
Given:
1. The author was using a specific Windows System when the left data lists were documented.

2. This one file is specific and is used for all illustration on the left.

3. What differs were the three browsers: Netscape Version 7.0, Netscape Version 4.77, and Internet Explorer 5.0.

Answer:
(a) Windows (b) Browser

When we referred to "right clicking anything" on this page we meant click "something". Other than the column 1 and column 2 gray tables, right click any other gray area (i.e., the scroll bars, the portion of the menu and tool bars) and observe the effect.

Summary

What capabilities you have when using your computer is, of course, dependent upon the operating system running it (Win95, Win98, Win2000, or XP).

But, the capabilities of your interface to the Internet is highly dependent upon which Browser you have chosen to use.

Think!  It won't hurt.

Are you willing to be told what browser you should use? Next, will Bill Gates, one of these days, TELL you what Browser you MUST use?

Could there be a better Browser than Internet Explorer?
Answer: (a) Yes (b) No

Remember, the "Single Right Click" is the most valuable feature that the mouse can provide. Yet. it is the least used aspect of the mouse for beginning and novice users.
